Georgia on My Mind

June 9, 2014

I’ve said it before (usually right before we go on a trip), but one of the reasons I’m most happy that I’ve kept up my blog is because I like looking back on old posts, and some of my favorite old posts to look back on are the travel posts.

We’ll be in Georgia for this week and a bit of the next, and I’m going to do my best to blog so that we’ll have a little travelogue to look back on in the years to come.  We may not know what we did for the other months out of the year, but damn it, we’ll know what we did when we traveled! Winking smile

We got to our cabin yesterday afternoon with a packed car:

Just the essentials.

It was only a 3.5 hour drive from our house to where we’re staying…but that drive became a little longer after someone got carsick in the backseat and threw up sweet potato chips EVERYWHERE.

One quick pit-stop in an abandoned hotel parking lot later, and we were (relatively) clean and back on the road again.

What toddler doesn’t appreciate getting their picture taken, naked and post-vomit?

A few hours later, we pulled up to our cabin in the woods.  This view was a sight for sore eyes:

As was this dinner:

Chicken sandwiches, cucumber and tomato salad, and a beer.  Ahhhhh.

Today—Ryan’s birthday!!!—we set of on a hike.  It’s kind of a tradition.  Last year we were in Michigan:

And here’s our Georgia pic!

I think our selfie-taking skills have improved.

The hike we set out on was the Flat Creek Loop, which is 5.7 miles.  Not that long, but everything seems magically 4.7 times longer when you’re doing it with a toddler.  #scientificfact

Lila started off in the pack with me:

Riding in a backpack is hard work.

…then ran on her own for a while—she actually did really great on her own.  But she did get tired eventually, and then got back in the pack with Ryan.

For the length of this hike, she actually did really well.  There was about a half a mile where she was pounding her fists on my back while screaming “Frozen!  Ariel! Aurora! Rapunzel! Brave!”, but yeah, other than that, she did really well.

On a completely unrelated note, we might need to cool it on the princesses for a while.

We came back pretty exhausted—an afternoon nap is in the cards.

Hope you’re having a great Monday!

How close to Atlanta are you? There’s a really nice aquarium here that Lila would like…

We’re about three hours away, so we probably won’t make it on this trip, but that IS on our list of things we want to take her to!! We’ve heard really good things about it. Some day…
