Mixing It Up
MAN this has been a week. How is it only Tuesday? Our days and weeks are all messed up from the long holiday break, but thing should get back to normal tomorrow when we start school again. I’m sad to see the break go, but honestly, I’m ready to get back into our weekly schedule as well. Things have been a little hectic lately, so getting back into our daily routine will be nice.
The latest hecticity? (Is that a word? I’m an English teacher, so I say it is.)
About an hour ago, water started POURING from our garage ceiling. Hashtag: awesome. Not sure wtf is going on, but a plumber is on his way to the house right now. Just what we needed today, gah!
In other, less depressing news—I’ve been having fun mixing it up at the gym. One of my friends from the Little Gym just joined the Y, so we’ve been checking out different classes together—we’ve done body pump and spin so far, and I’m determined to get to a barre class one of these days. It’s been fun to mix it up after SO. MUCH. RUNNING. Plus, I’ve been crazy sore—working muscles that didn’t get much work at all during the training for the marathon.
Another way I’ve been stepping out of the fitness rut? I bought a fitbit:
…which I wear around my wrist all day. It tracks my steps taken—the goal is 10,000 a day. It’s been amazing to me how hard it is to reach that in these days before teaching—my days can be pretty sedentary! With the freezing weather we’ve been having, I haven’t been walking the dogs as much, but the fitbit has been a great motivator to get out and take a walk around the ‘hood, despite the freezing cold weather. I’ll post more about it after I’ve had it longer—I just got it on Saturday!
That’s it around here. I need to finalize my syllabi for the classes that start tomorrow (GULP!). What about you—have you been shaking up your fitness routine for the new year?
