Twas the Night Before the Marathon…

December 14, 2013

Yes, yes I DO teach poetry for a living.  Why do you ask?

‘Twas the night before the marathon,

and all through the home,

not a creature was stirring

except me with my phone.

The weather was calling

for rain and for wind.

Refresh the weather app,

I urged, refresh it again!

I was hoping for clear skies, or

a chance of rain—none.

But despite the poor weather

I’d knew I’d still have fun.

For months I’d been training!

My shoes I’d worn thin!

So tight were my hamstrings,

so sore my shins!

But onward I’d pressed,

each week after week.

On short runs, on long runs–

training’s not for the meek!

And all to say—what?

I ran 26.2?

We’ll find out tomorrow–

please pray that I do!

Come rain or come shine,

tomorrow I’ll run.

Here’s hoping I’ll be a marathoner

when I’m done!

Smile  See you after the race!
