Busy Holidays

December 9, 2013

Is it me, or do the holidays seem *extra* busy this year?  We’ve been soaking up as much holiday fun as we can—parties, happy hours, dinners with friends—the works.  And while it has been really fun, it’s also made it feel like the holidays are passing in the blink of an eye!

Here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to lately:

We took Lila to see Disney on Ice:

Photo: Disney on Ice! Someone was too riveted to look at the camera. :)

She was a little young for it still.  Next year, I think it will be a hit.  This year, we left at intermission (with a thirty dollar doll.  Nicely played, Disney).

I brought this salad to not one, but TWO holiday get-togethers—a small dinner party, and a bigger ugly sweater party as well:

It couldn’t be easier: 1 bag of butter lettuce mix, the wedges of 2 clementine oranges, 1/2 cup pomegrate arils, 1/2 cup crumbled bleu cheese, and 1/3 cup marcona almonds (plus whatever dressing you like).  So delicious and refreshing! I think it’s nice to offer up a salad at holiday parties—a lot of times people are looking for at least *one* lighter dish among the many heavy, sugary, traditional holiday fare.

People love salads, right?

We also baked cookies for the ugly sweater party:

It was Lila’s first year to really bake Christmas cookies, and she was digging it!  Thanks for the Elmo apron, Mimi.  Smile

The cookies turned out great:

And by the way, I don’t mean to brag (yes I do), but we were the winners at the ugly sweater party:

Ohhhhhh yeah.  Looking good!

Other than all the festivities, we’ve been grading, shopping, and—oh yeah, my marathon is this weekend!! Winking smile

I’ve been checking the weather forecast every day—looks like there’s a chance of showers, but other than that, things are looking good.  I did a final ten mile run on Saturday, and other than some walking, yoga and maybe a light gym trip or two, I plan on taking it seriously easy this week.  My goal is to hydrate and eat well so that by Saturday, I’m really feeling my best for the race.  In some ways, I can’t believe it’s finally here—in other ways, it feels like I’ve been training for it forever, ha!

Hope you’re enjoying your holidays!  Happy Monday!

Dang where has the time gone? I can’t believe the race time is about here! I can’t remember where you said it was. I would totally come cheer you on if it were close. I hope you have an incredible restful week.
