(please forgive me in advance for what is sure to be a long, photo-dump of a post )
We’ve been coming to Harbor Island for over thirty years now, so I think it’s fair to say that we know a few things about what to expect when you come to the island. Or, maybe more accurately, we know a few things about what not to expect.
You can’t always expect sun. I learned that on my wedding day, four and a half years ago:
Actually, the sun DID come out for our wedding. But then the skies quickly opened back up, right after we said “I do.” Proof that our marriage is blessed, right?
We’ve kind of had similar weather this week—some sun, a little rain, and a LOT of wind—which is actually nice, because it keeps things nice and cool.
Even with gray skies, we’ve been getting in a lot of beach time:
We also know that you can’t always expect power (hi, dinner by candlelight!)…or hot water…or working appliances. Our hot water heater went out on Tuesday…and then the oven went out on Wednesday. Which meant that we were cooking our entire Thanksgiving dinner with just a toaster oven and a stovetop. Despite the limitations, our meal was excellent—we really impressed ourselves with our toaster oven cooking skills! Here’s Lila, enjoying her plate:
We had chicken, mashed butternut squash, brussels sprouts, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, English pea salad, stuffing, and two kinds of pie! Not bad for just a toaster oven!
That covers a few things you can’t expect—but what about what you can expect?
Expect lots of hootenannies:
….and lots of family love:
…and beautiful skies in the morning:
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
