Out and About in Huntsville: An Afternoon at Burritt on the Mountain

August 16, 2013

From 11:00 this morning to 3:00 this afternoon, I attended a mandatory meeting about teaching composition.

That’s a LOT of meeting, my friends.

By the time I got home, I was more than ready to spend some time with my favorite kiddo and husband.  My favorite husband wasn’t around, so I decided that Ryan would do.

When I have long mornings/afternoons up on campus, it’s always nice to do something extra fun with Lila.  It was 3:30 when I got home, and we promptly got back in the car and headed to…Burritt on the Mountain!

Burritt on the Mountain is about ten minutes away from our new house, and it’s wonderful! It’s way up on Monte Santo, overlooking the city of Huntsville, and is basically a historic park.  They have summer concerts, literary events, farm days—ALL sorts of fun activities.  For the last couple of months, they’ve had a “Whimsical Woods” exhibit—an interactive game that involves all of the park “stations.”  Lila was still way to young to officially “play” the game, but she loved exploring every corner of the park—from the many different playgrounds, to the live animals—sheep and cows and horses and chickens!

Here are some pictures from our fun afternoon!

Such a fun afternoon! Definitely made up for the long meeting I had earlier.  Smile

One of the things we like most about Huntsville is how many great things there are to do with kids here, and Burritt on the Mountain is no exception!

Hope you had a good Thursday.  We’re off to Louisiana for a baby shower this weekend—wish us luck with the flights!! Winking smile

Hope the flights go well! Watching them see things for the first time is so much fun!

2 hours is too long for a meeting let alone 4! I love that you guys have such fast access to outdoorsy stuff. That’s one thing I love about Little Rock. One minute you’re in the middle of downtown, minutes later you’re looking at deer, river, and a mountain.

Ugh. I hate long meetings. I taught briefly and I remember them all too well. I love this little historic park you went to! We live next to Rock Ledge Ranch, which is very similar. I walk there every morning and Lucy and I look at the chickens, horses and pigs. Eventually she’ll appreciate it as much as I do! Thank you for sharing all the adorable pics, as always!
