Wrapping Up Michigan

June 23, 2013

Well, I tried to blog consistently through this trip…but kind of fell off the wagon towards the end of the trip! Oh well…I did the best I could, and the truth was, we were having so much fun, blogging was the last thing on my mind. I DO want to recap the end of the trip, just to have the photos and memories to look back on!

I believe I left off on Wednesday…which started bright and EARLY for Ryan and my dad—they went fishing on Lake Michigan! My mom, Lila and I were happy to stay in bed, but Ryan and my dad left at 5:30 AM to catch some dinner…and to watch this beautiful sunrise:

Unfortunately, Wednesday was also the day that Lila seemed to come down with a mid-vacation cold.  She spent the next few days sniffling with a runny nose and COUGHING—my mom thought she had the croup!

She’s much better now, but we took it easy for a few days.  Luckily, vacation is an easy time to take it easy.  Winking smile

She actually was quite the little trooper, and still went on hikes with us, despite her cold.  For the most part, she kept up a sunny disposition as well (though post-naptime and going-to-bed time was ROUGH for a few days).

On Wednesday afternoon, we explored a nature preserve that was very close to our house.

Despite her cold, Lila mustered up some energy:

…and we had a great time.  (Eloise always seems to have energy to spare Winking smile)

For one of our last hikes, we headed back to Sleeping Bear Point—another repeat, but so beautiful, it felt right to do it again:

And finally, on one of our last nights, we took the boat out for a cocktail hour cruise:

So pretty.

This trip was been a trip for the books—one of those trips about which I know, for years to come, we’ll sigh and say, “MAN, that was a great trip.”  The food, the hikes, our cabin, the lake—everything was just amazing.  Maybe not perfect, but amazing.  Michigan, you have impressed us.  We’ll be returning, hopefully again and again.

Yes, it was a great trip! It was hard coming back to Louisiana heat, but I guess that’s why it’s a vacation.
