A Trip to the Fair

May 28, 2013

Yesterday evening, we headed over as a family to the Rocket City Fair.  It was later than we usually go out with Lila, but she ended up taking an amazing nap from 3:00 to 5:45, so she had more than enough energy to burn off—and the fair was the perfect place to do it! Winking smile

Obviously a great time was had by all.  Smile  After the fair, we went to Panera for an easy dinner.  We didn’t end up home until 8:00, and she was still going strong.

At dinner, we talked a little bit about how much easier, more fun, and…well, just BETTER this summer seems, compared to last.  Before Lila was born, I think I thought (foolishly) that after two or three months, I’d have the whole “baby” thing down, and that we’d spend our first summer with Lila in a state of infant-induced bliss.  Honestly, I spent last summer stressed out, exhausted, and second-guessing a lot of what I was doing as a mother.

I still don’t feel like I “know” what I’m doing, so to speak, but I will say that things feel much, much easier this summer.  Is a year a long time to feel like you finally kind of “get it” as a mother?  Maybe.  I’m sure some mothers feel at ease much, much sooner.  And maybe some mothers never quite feel at ease.  I think I lean more towards that end of the spectrum than the end of “Hey, I’ve got this!”  And maybe that’s a good thing.

Anyway, I’ll take it—we’re having so much fun so far.  I’m already dreading going back to school in the fall—gah!! We won’t think about that now, though! Winking smile

Have a great day!
