A Trip to the Fair
Yesterday evening, we headed over as a family to the Rocket City Fair. It was later than we usually go out with Lila, but she ended up taking an amazing nap from 3:00 to 5:45, so she had more than enough energy to burn off—and the fair was the perfect place to do it!

Obviously a great time was had by all. After the fair, we went to Panera for an easy dinner. We didn’t end up home until 8:00, and she was still going strong.
At dinner, we talked a little bit about how much easier, more fun, and…well, just BETTER this summer seems, compared to last. Before Lila was born, I think I thought (foolishly) that after two or three months, I’d have the whole “baby” thing down, and that we’d spend our first summer with Lila in a state of infant-induced bliss. Honestly, I spent last summer stressed out, exhausted, and second-guessing a lot of what I was doing as a mother.
I still don’t feel like I “know” what I’m doing, so to speak, but I will say that things feel much, much easier this summer. Is a year a long time to feel like you finally kind of “get it” as a mother? Maybe. I’m sure some mothers feel at ease much, much sooner. And maybe some mothers never quite feel at ease. I think I lean more towards that end of the spectrum than the end of “Hey, I’ve got this!” And maybe that’s a good thing.
Anyway, I’ll take it—we’re having so much fun so far. I’m already dreading going back to school in the fall—gah!! We won’t think about that now, though!
Have a great day!
