We have friends! And oatmeal.

January 13, 2013

When we first moved to Pennsylvania, I was complaining to my friend Lee about how hard it was to meet people and make friends (other than Lee and her husband Steve, ha) in the tiny little town of Altoona.  Lee told me that she knew it was hard, but that one day, I’d just wake up and realize, “You know what? I have friends!”

It took a while, but ultimately she was right.  And now, I think the same thing has happened in Huntsville.  It’s always hard moving to a new place where you know only a few people, but suddenly, we’re finding that…hey, we have friends! We have things to do and people to see!  It’s always a nice feeling when you cross that line of feeling like the new kid in town to feeling like you actually have people you can call your friends.

The whole point of this, I guess, is that we had a fun weekend with various friends.  We went out on Friday night for sushi with some of our colleagues from UAH, and then on Saturday, we had a play date with another couple from our birthing class.  This time last year, we were just STARTING that class—so strange to think about!

Now, we both have babies that are moving and shaking!

Lila was fascinated by Amelia’s lack of hair.  Mom, where is it all???

And dancing.  And standing.  And making dinosaur noises.  Smile

Last night, we relaxed with an Amy’s pizza and an episode of Nashville.  Low-key in the best way possible.

And then this morning, even though it was gray and drizzly outside, we drove to a local nature preserve to do some walking with the dogs (who have MAJOR cabin fever due to all the rain we’ve gotten lately).

It rained on us a little, and they were totally muddy by the end of the walk, but it was still nice to get outside:

This morning, I also made some new breakfast food for Lila: blueberry banana oatmeal.

A bowl for mom and a bowl for baby.  Winking smile

Verdict?  This one’s a keeper!

And now…we have dogs to bathe…meals to cook…and I need to prep for my classes tomorrow.  Have a great Sunday!

I loved this post! my husband and I recently moved to Hood River, OR from the east coast. We don’t know anyone. I have been tempted to shout out at groups of women when I see them running together “hey, can we be friends? I swear I’m cool!” It’s been a rough transition but we are slowly meeting people. It is so much harder the older you get!

Ha– it IS hard!!! I used to tell Ryan all the time when we lived in Pennsylvania that I would see a girl who looked about my age in the grocery store and really want to just go up to her and say, “I like your jeans…can we be friends??”

For this move, having a baby has made it a little easier in some ways, but harder in others– after all, you’re kind of limited on social time when you have a baby with you!!

I knew you would make lots of friends – it just takes some time and is not something you can rush. Actually babies and baby classes are a great source of friends, because you all have so much in common. It sure does make living in a place nicer, doesn’t it?
