It’s a…

Girl!

Apologies to Baby Girl Weber in advance for displaying your ladybits on the internet for all to see.  I have a feeling this will be the first of many, many embarrassments for you.

So…it’s a girl! And we’re SO excited.  I’ve wanted girls for as long as I can remember.  I think it’s a comfort thing—I come from a very girl-heavy family, and feel very comfortable around little girls, but the thought of raising a son has always kind of scared me.  I’m pretty “girly”—not in the sense that I like pink things and tutus and princess dolls (although I do kind of like all those things), but in the sense that I’m not a sports person (football what?)…I don’t know much about science (only boys care about that stuff, right?), and I’m pretty sensitive.  When you’re raised in a family of girls, you pretty much cry at the drop of a hat.

Obviously, all of these things are total stereotypes—girls can love science and football, and boys can love dolls and tutus, and that’s what makes the world go ‘round.

But it doesn’t change the fact that I’ve always wanted a daughter.

Now, in recent years, I’ve come around to the thought of having a boy.  Three years ago, I nannied for one of the sweetest little boys in the world:

…and he pretty much changed my views on baby boys in three months flat.  We’re also lucky enough to have TWO sweet nephews.

I think I always thought of little boys as being little hell-raisers, but our nephews are incredibly sweet and well-behaved.  Through spending time with boys like that, I finally decided that having a boy would be just as great as having a girl.

But I still wanted a daughter.

The heart wants what it wants, right?  And so, when the ultrasound technician said, “It’s a girl!”…I almost didn’t believe her.

“It’s a girl???”

“It’s a girl.”

Three of the most exciting words I’ve heard in my life.

Ryan wanted a girl too, so we were both thrilled.  I think neither one of us could believe it at first.  But then we bought this:

And now, more and more, it’s sinking in that in a little over four months, we’ll have someone to put in that dress.

In honor of Baby Girl Weber, I made these muffins:

Sugar and spice…because that’s what little girls are made of, right?  Although I think the sugar decreases a significant amount during one’s teenage years…but we won’t think about that right now.  We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Sugar and Spice Muffins

Ingredients:

1 3/4 cup flour

1/2 tsp. salt

1 1/2 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. nutmeg

1/3 cup vegetable oil

3/4 cup sugar

3/4 cup milk

1 egg

for topping:

1/2 cup butter, melted

3/4 cup sugar

1 tsp. cinnamon

Directions:

In a mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, baking powder and spices.  In a separate mixing bowl, combine remaining ingredients and whisk well.

Mix wet ingredients into dry ingredients until just combined.  Drop batter into a lightly greased muffin tin, filling 3/4 of the way full.

Bake in a 350 degree oven for 20-25 minutes, until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.

As muffins are baking, melt the butter and combine the sugar and cinnamon.

While muffins are still hot, dip the tops into the melted butter and then the cinnamon sugar mixture.

Enjoy!

Mmmmm…these are kind of like a cross between a muffin and a donut.  In other words, delicious.

Have a great Wednesday!

Wahoo! Congrats!! I sort of secretly want a girl first – but our nephews are so sweet and fun that I know would fall in love with a little boy just as fast. Maybe the girl thing is just more familiar… in any case, glad you guys are over the moon!

  5. November 10, 2011 4:04 pm

I guessed right! Yay, congrats. And am I the only one that always thinks an ultrasound looks like a big blob? I would not be able to identify girl or boy parts on one.

    • November 10, 2011 4:05 pm

Ha, no, it totally does. I had to ask Ryan to show me what parts were what here…I think she was kind of mooning us in that picture. Attitude already.

Yay, a girl! I’m so happy for you two! I always thought I wanted a girl since I come from a family of 4 girls, but I love having two boys. I will admit I’m out numbered all the time, but I know I’ll get taken care of forever by my guys. They make me feel special.

    Those muffins sound crazy good!

Yay yay yay! I’m so glad you didn’t leave us in suspense for too long. (How did I EVER go nine months without knowing the sex of our Peanut?!) I’m SO happy for you and Ryan! Though I would have been just as happy if you would have told us it’s a boy. They’ve kind of grown on me 🙂

  24. November 11, 2011 4:56 am

How exciting! We’re so happy for you both!!! Two seconds after Ryan sent the text, I told Nathaniel that I NEEDED to go shopping. I can’t wait to buy something girlie for your little one. Oh, and I hear that our husbands are already discussing the possibility of an arranged marriage for Will and Baby W. Sounds good to me. 🙂

Congratulations! That dress is adorable 😀 I’ve always thought if I had a baby someday I’d prefer a girl, too. I grew up with a single mother and a sister. My only experience with boys in the house was having male cats…
