Very nice indeed!

Hi friends! We’re resting in our hotel room after a great afternoon of gallivanting around Nice.  Today just might have been the *perfect* Sunday.

We actually slept REALLY late this morning—which is NOT our style at all! I’m usually up, sans alarm clock, by about 7:00 every morning.  Well, I guess the time change and long day of travel yesterday got to me, because we woke up this morning at 11:00!!!

For what it’s worth, we both feel very well-rested now—as we should! 🙂

Once we showered and got moving, we headed out for a late (very late) breakfast of fruit, granola, and muffins, which was the perfect fuel for our first activity of the day—the Chagall museum!  Chagall is one of my favorite artists, so we were very excited to go to this museum.  It didn’t disappoint—it was great.  Honestly, I prefer going to smaller museums that center around just one artist—it’s so much easier to take the work in that way! At huge museums, I have a tendency to feel really overwhelmed and lost.  The Chagall museum was just my style!

After we hit up the museum, we kind of just started wandering around town.  Here are some pictures from our afternoon in Nice:

We had to climb up a buttload of stairs to get this view:

(I believe I am saying: “Are you taking a picture of my butt?!?”  And the answer is yes.  Yes, he was.)

but it was worth it!

All of the stairs lead to a great park where people were lounging on blankets, drinking wine, smoking cigarettes, playing soccer…and just being generally European.  :-)

After spending a while in the park, we meandered back to the ground level and explored some of old Nice, which has tons of stone passageways and fun little alcoves and pockets to explore.  Also, all of that stair-climbing and park-sitting had gotten us pretty hungry, so we refueled with gelato and with…

…SOCCA!!!! I was so excited to find genuine socca here—I had kind of forgotten that the dish originates from Nice! The twins (who introduced me (and hundreds of other bloggers, haha) to socca) reminded me in my last post, so I was on the lookout for some today! I didn’t have to look too hard—it’s a very popular food item here!

Mmmmm….this socca was SO good.  Cripsy, with a really intense olive-oil flavor.  Perfect late afternoon snack!  These gentleman provided some mood music for our street food snack:

Well, that’s about it! I think we’re going to venture back out in a little while…we’re leaving tomorrow, so we want to soak up all of Nice while we can!

Happy Mother’s Day to all you mamas out there!!!!

See you tomorrow!

    O. M. G. That does sound like the perfect Sunday. I mean, the view of Nice is nice, but the view of your butt is better. (Nice work, Ryan.) I hope both of you are using the “nice” pun to its fullest extent while you’re there. I expect it.

Bahahaha, gotta love a good butt shot. Your vacations make me want to go into teaching, but then I remember things like grading and lesson plans…

I feel like every time I’m lazy in the blog reading/blog world and don’t check people’s blogs, when I come back to yours, you are always in some ridiculously awesome location. So fun! Nice is beautiful. I hope (well obviously) you’re having a great time!
