The Most Shocking Blog Post Ever*

January 4, 2011

First of all, I just want to get this off my chest: I’m not here to make friends.  I blog because I want to find the type of recipe that I can spend the rest of my life with, and I’m not going to let anyone get in my way.

Not vampires, or rockettes, or manscapers.  Not Chris Harrison, or jaded one-time bachelorettes, or Jake Pavelka.

Glad we got that cleared up.

It took me a really long time to get to where I am today, but I can finally say that I’m ready to give myself fully to a meal.  Oh, I might have thought that I was ready in the past, but if you want to know the truth, I was just scared.  It might have come off as arrogance, or stupidity, or even plain old jack-assery, but the truth is, I was just terrified of true commitment.  You can blame it on my father—I do.

Tonight, I took the first step of the first day of the rest of my life, and put myself out there for the first time.  I could only hope that my love would be returned.

And oh, how it was.

I’d been with butternut squash before, but not like this.  This time, things were different.

This butternut squash was served over pasta with a brown butter sauce.  The butternut squash was sweet—and you know I love that.  But the brown butter sauce also added something different—something unexpected.  Something a little…sexy.  It’s almost like I was torn between two polar opposites, the veggie next door and the trashy tortellini.

This was a pasta with both style and substance, the kind of pasta you’d bring home to Mom.  But that won’t happen for at least another eight episodes.

If anyone needs me, I’ll be in the hot tub with these cupcakes:

I don’t really want to share them, but it’s my understanding that that’s part of the gig.

*Yes, I did watch The Bachelor tonight.  Why do you ask?

  12. January 4, 2011 3:25 pm

You are so witty. Cupcakes have been a relationship breaker before. It takes a big pair of pants to look past them.

  13. January 4, 2011 3:33 pm

I just could NOT get into the Bachelor last night. He is far too touchy feely for me…I’m sitting this season out.

Your cupcakes would be a nice consolation prize though…

  19. January 4, 2011 6:06 pm

You are hysterical. This might be my favorite post ever. Perhaps when you get back to PA we can have The Bachelor viewing parties? Vampires are even more funny when shared with friends.

Funny, funny, funny! Almost as funny as watching that STUPID show, and almost as funny as listening to Ellen and you keep up a running commentary the whole time! I did love that pasta, and I did love watching the Bachelor with you, but I can pretty much guarantee you that I won’t be watching it by myself next week!

  21. January 4, 2011 6:12 pm

Mmmm! That brown butter sauce sounds gooood!

I watched too…it’s the only thing that got me up for my workout this morning. I should save more trashy TV on my DVR to get me up and active in the AM!

  22. January 4, 2011 8:09 pm

Watching The Bachelor right now…just about to hand out the final rose! Every season I say I’m not going to watch, but it sucks me in anyway!!! I’m a sucker for reality TV 🙂

What’s up with the vampire chick?!

Hey. Um. I was watching the Bachelor and wanted to ask you: That girl has fangs?

Anyway. I thought you were going to tell us you were getting fangs. I’m glad it was about squash instead.

  28. January 5, 2011 2:14 am

This post cracked me up! That squash looks delicious – my grandmother makes something similiar except it’s ravioli instead of tortellini. Have fun with those cupcakes 😉

  29. January 5, 2011 2:23 am

    I want a cupcake!!

  30. January 5, 2011 11:05 pm

I want to run in and ask you if I can just steal your ravioli for a chat… just for a second. I”m not going to get a rose if I don’t… talk… to… it….
