Best Dishes and Meals of 2010

December 29, 2010

Hi friends! I’m glad you enjoyed my antique finds…I was quite proud of them myself!

We just got back from a long morning of shopping…I dropped a bit of Christmas dough at Anthropologie…thank you, Santa!

We’re going out tonight with Ryan’s friends, so a dinner post probably won’t be up, but I thought I’d leave you with a recap of some of my favorite meals and dishes from 2010.

Remember my vegan challenge in January?  Going without eggs and dairy for a month was pretty tough, but these enchiladas proved that even the cheesiest of dishes can be veganized in a tasty way:

February included a delicious Valentine’s Day dinner, the star of which was this chocolate mousse, straight from The Art of French Cooking:

You really can’t go wrong with Julia.  And lots of cream and butter and chocolate.

March marked the arrival of….Sophie Rose!!!

blog 008

Can you believe how small she was?  Crazy! March was also our fun “Taste the Rainbow” challenge—a challenge that I want to repeat this year! We had lots of COLORFUL meals, like this salad:

Yum!

In April, we ventured to the Big Apple for a wedding, and enjoyed a meal at Candle 79 while we were there:

The best in vegan fine dining!

May, June, and July meant traveling—first to Louisiana, then to Europe, and then finally to Nantucket for a family fourth of July.

One of my favorite meals while we were in Italy was actually the one we had on our first night in Venice—these zucchini blossoms were to die for:

Lots of gelato was enjoyed in Italy as well (Dear Broken Zipper on my pants: You’re welcome.):

And as for Croatia, our meal at the restaurant Valsabbion in Porec pretty much took the cake for the craziest meal of the trip…and possibly of my life:

Holy insanity.  You can read my entire recap of that crazy meal here, aptly titled, “The Fanciest Meal I’ve Ever Had.”

In Nantucket:

…we did a lot of cooking at home, including this watermelon feta salad:

…and, of course, a lobster dinner (yes, even for this vegetarian.  What can I say? I caved.):

In July, Ryan’s parents also came to visit us in Pennsylvania, and we cooked up a Louisiana feast for them, including fried okra and homemade peach praline ice cream.  Yum!

In August, we returned to Seattle for a wedding, and dined at a great Raw restaurant, Thrive:

We balanced all of that healthy raw food out with the donuts at the wedding:

We also helped Nick and Emily brew beer for the first time—not really a meal or a dish, but I think it’s worthy of an honorable mention!

September and October meant harvest meals, changing leaves, and a visit with my family to Hershey, PA!

Pumpkin cookies:

Lentil Soup:

And home-baked bread, a la Ryan:

And of course, October always means dogs in costume:

In November, I kind of went crazy with the cookie baking.  These lemon spelt cookies were some of my favorites:

And that brings us to…December!  Our meal at LifeStyle in Bedford was one of my favorites of the year—good food, GREAT friends, and lots of wine on a cold, December night!

Yikes—I can’t believe a whole year has passed! Crazy how time flies when you’re having fun and eating lots of great food.  🙂

What were some of your favorite meals this year?  I think our fancy Croatian dinner takes the cake!

This is such great food porn.
I can hardly think of what I ate last week, let alone over the year, but I remember a raw cake that knocked my socks off somewhere in May or July.

Some of my favorite meals have been the ones we shared with our family – remember picking up sushi to go last summer? How about our pizza and game nights? Thanksgiving (SO MUCH FOOD!!) It’s all good and, it’s so much fun to remember – the year has flown by, hasn’t it?

Also a few weeks ago when in NYC, I went to V-Note (I think it’s Candle 79’s sister restaurant). It was definitely the best vegan food of my life. Mmm
