Not Quite Ready to Say Goodbye

July 12, 2010

Well, about two hours after we dropped them off at the airport, guess who showed back up on the doorstep?

I guess Sophie just wasn’t ready to say goodbye!

Actually, their flight was cancelled due to plane difficulties (eek!), so Katherine, Kevin, and Sophie were stuck with us for one more day! We spent the afternoon at the beach, and then headed into town for dinner.

The destination?  Todd English’s Figs!

I was super excited to visit a “celebrity chef” restaurant, and thought we might even catch a glimpse of the man himself, but alas, it was a no go.  No celebrity chef in sight…however, we did have a fantastic meal!

Figs is primarily a pizza restaurant, with several starters and a handful of entree options as well.  I stayed true to my sentiments in this post, and started with a Caesar salad:

It did not disappoint!

Then, we moved on to the main even: pizza! I ordered a delicious portabella pizza with wild mushrooms, sweet red onions, and fontina cheese.

It was, quite honestly, one of the most amazing pizzas I’ve ever put in my mouth.  So, so good.

Ryan went veggie as well, so we traded some slices.  His was a pizza bianco with mozzarella, fresh arugula, tomatoes, sweet onion, and olive oil.  Delicious!

I had a major food baby after this meal, but it was totally worth it.

This morning, we really DID say goodbye to Katherine, Kevin and Sophie…and they finally got off for good!

After we left the airport, we needed to do something fun to distract us from our diminished group, so we headed to the Shipwreck museum to see the special exhibit…Sea Rescue Dogs!!!

Lol.  Seeing all of the amazing rescue dogs working so hard kind of makes me wonder why Ella and Baxter spend most of their time doing this:

Lazy bums.  They should be out there saving lives!

Lunch was enjoyed in ‘Sconset, a part of the island that we hadn’t yet explored.  Sconset was really cute, and the sandwiches we got at a local cafe were great!

Fresh veggie on whole wheat.  Yum!

For dessert, we couldn’t resist these incredibly soft chocolate chip cookies:

Tonight, a night at home is on the agenda…not sure about the rest of the afternoon though.  Perhaps a bike ride?

Hope you’re having a great Monday!

OH!!! And—Katherine texted me from the airport, and guess who was behind them in the checkout line?!?  TODD ENGLISH!!! Ha!
