Fun Run in the Sun

July 6, 2010

Just call me Dr. Seuss.

This morning, my sister and I headed out for a run in the HEAT.  I guess the whole Northeast is having a heat wave right now?!  It’s been almost 90 degrees here on Nantucket!  Luckily, I think today is supposed to be our last hot day, and then it is going to go back down to the mid-seventies.  Honestly though, I don’t mind the heat—I’d much rather be hot than cold!

We pushed through 6.3 miles with the sun beating down our backs.  It was hot, but it felt great! It’s been a while since I’ve gone for a run, and I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

After showering and cleaning up, we went to the grocery store and came home for a late lunch.

I kept it really simple:  farm fresh tomatoes, basil, and sharp white cheddar on a whole wheat pita:

Plus Cape Cod chips and the sweetest, most delicious cherries I’ve had so far this summer.  Cherries are definitely up there on the list of my favorite summer fruits, when they’re good.

I also had two mini-white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies.  Totally necessary.

Well, the fishing crew is about to head out, and my mom and I are going to rock it BSC style with Sophie.  I’ve always thought of myself as a Dawn Schafer-type.  I think my mom is more of a Mary Anne.

So here’s a fun question: if you read the Baby-Sitter’s Club books growing up (or currently, as an adult, as I do), which girl were you?  Kristy always got on my nerves, as did Mallory Pike.  And even as a child, I recognized the fact that Stacey and Claudia would have been way too cool to be friends with me if we were ever to meet in real life.  I would have been stuck with Mary Anne, I’m afraid.  Sigh.  Such is life.

I was probably most like Mary Anne but, oh, how I dreamed of being hippie-loving, tofu-eating Dawn!!! 🙂

Seriously, I’m laughing at the paragraph about the BSC. You are too fun! 🙂
Is it sad that my sister bought me the DVD of the BSC movie like 2 years ago…I’m 23 and she’s 25…haha! 🙂

Awesome run, I don’t mind the heat too much either except for evening runs. I think I’d be Mary Anne too, you’re not alone! 😛

I admire you for running in that heat – did your speed or anything suffer?
I’m sure I used to read those books but I can’t remember a thing about them!! Maybe I started them and they were too over my head for me to understand 😛

Awesome run! I feel like it is hot all over…but we are getting hurricane rain all the way up in Tulsa. Kinda scary…

I totally read Babysitters Club books! I read them all multiple times!

Nicely done on the run. I am totally with you on preferring the heat over cold. Maybe it’s a southern thing?

    Oh sad…I think I was most like Kristy! I annoy you…haha! 🙂

Tomato + cheese sandwiches–especially cheddar–are my one of my favorite summer foods. So good, and simple.
