Fourth Fun

July 5, 2010

Hey guys! Hope everyone had a great fourth! I know I’ve been a little lazy with the commenting, but I promise I haven’t forgotten you! I’ll get back to semi-regular commenting now that we’re all settled in here!

Yesterday, after a long afternoon nap (swoon), Ryan and I took the dogs on a late afternoon beach walk.  It was great—they LOVE it here!  Well, it was great until they found a dead seagull to roll in.  Then, it was kind of nasty.

When we returned home, the sun was just beginning to set:

…and my dad was at work on the grill:

Yum! We had a class Fourth of July BBQ dinner.  The meat-eaters had pork tenderloin, while I loaded up on French bread, salad, and grilled vegetables.  Perfect!

Some Whale’s Tale Ale was enjoyed as well…I have a feeling we’ll be enjoying a lot of this during our time here—the brewery is right here on the island!

As we ate dinner, the sun kept setting and just kept getting more and more beautiful.  Our guidebook says that Madaket, where we’re staying, is a great place to watch the sunset, and I can see why.  It was just beautiful last night!

After some dessert of cookies and whoopie pie (which my family had never heard of?!  Is whoopie pie a Northern thing?  We have them ALL over Pennsylvania!), and some fireworks (from very far away, but it worked) it was time for bed.

Someone, however, disagreed:

Ha! Sophie WAILED for a while after we all went to bed, but eventually, she calmed down.  Now, where’s my birth control?

Hope you had a great holiday as well! Have a good Monday, everybody!

Whoopie pies are definitely a NE thing… maybe even just a PA/near PA thing? I had never heard of them but my hubby is from southern Jersey (just outside of PA) and LOVES them. His mom always buys these crazy ridiculously huge ones from the Amish market :-P.
