Low-Key V-Day
Happy Friday! Ready for it over here, that’s for sure.
I know I’ve said this before, but one of the things I like most about having a blog is being able to look back and see what we did for certain days, nights, holidays, special occasions, year after year. Yesterday, I took a walk down memory lane and looked at a few Valentine’s Day posts from previous years:
Every year, we made elaborate meals at home—meals that required hours of prep, multiple trips to the grocery story. Meals that we served on our fine china. Meals that were accompanied by large quantities of wine.
Meals that were not made after chasing after a 10 month old all day.
These days, things are a little different. We don’t have all the time in the world to prepare complex, fancy-shmancy dinners. And drinking copious amounts of wine becomes much less appealing when you know you’ll have a 5:45 wake-up call.
Last night’s Valentine’s dinner was a pretty accurate reflection of our life right now:
Salad eaten in my lap while watching Community…
…frozen pizza eaten in my lap while watching The Office…
…and a single glass of wine, enjoyed by the ambient light of the video monitor.
Ah, romance!
That’s okay. Our days of fine china might be over (for now), but I’ve never loved my husband more. And this little cupid:
…makes even the lamest Valentine’s dinner worthwhile. ![]()

I hear that. I always wonder what its like to eat with two hands. Her outfit melts my heart
Funny how things change when you have kids…
Sounds like a perfect night to me! Have a great weekend Anna!
sounds like the perfect evening. And happy Friday!!!
Aww, she’s an angel!
Well, Nick and I don’t ven have a child and we have already made our Valentine’s Day more low key. We bought a “Dinner for Two” in a plastic heart-shaped container. lol. And I had one martini, and he had a beer, and we kissed and ate a chocolate or two. SO ROMANTIC
