Heck of a Hike

October 16, 2011

Hellllllo friends! Happy weekend! Ours has been good…but it went by way too quickly!

Yesterday, we tackled a hike that we’ve been wanting to do since we moved down here: the Walls of Jericho. We’d read that this was one of the prettiest hikes in the area, and we weren’t disappointed.  But I will say, the pregnant lady in me was a little nervous to see this sign:

…at the beginning of the hike.  Still, I figured—how bad could it be?

The hike started with a long traverse down the mountain:

Which lead to a valley:

…and a few footbridges that the pooches were less than excited to cross:

…and finally, after a shorter hike along a narrow ledge trail:

We found ourselves at the Walls of Jericho! Beautiful!

The walls have all sorts of waterfalls and caves to explore:

Someone was watching as Ella and I prepared lunch:

On the way back, we stopped by one of the footbridges to throw a few sticks for Ella—this dog LOVES to retrieve in water!

Baxter, on the other hand, HATES water—he’ll whine if we try to take him on a walk after a rain shower.  So you can imagine our surprise when this happened:

He saw something across the stream that we wanted—maybe a little creature?  It had to be something good for him to attempt to cross the river! He picked up a little debris along the way:

What a goofball.

All in all, the hike took about four hours for us to complete…and by the end, I was really exhausted.  This was by far the hardest workout I’ve had in the past few months…but I’ll admit, it felt pretty good to really break a sweat.  The uphill climb on the way back had my legs burning in a good way.  I’m pretty sore today—I think the foam roller might need to make an appearance.

Hope you had a great weekend as well!

Wow, that looks beautiful. Hiking this time of year is really the best form of exercise. I’m so pissed I’m missing a prime fall/hikingweekend at home b/c that’s exactly what we’d be doing if I was there!

Haha, I like how you said “the pregnant woman in me.”

How fun! That b&w pic is a really good one of Ryan and Ella! And I LOVE the picture of her fetching in the water- so jealous- I wish my dogs could be trusted to go off leash!!

Well, note the fact that Baxter is still wearing his leash, even in the creek– not both of our dogs can be trusted :-)

You really need a caption on the photo of Baxter standing up in the water. Hilarious.

Gorgeous hike and good for you for getting out there. When I was preggers, a walk around the block on city streets was about all I could muster some days :)

These are some beautiful pictures, way to turn 6 hrs into 4 hrs! Lincoln hates water but I think if there was something (or someone) he was after, he would definitely jump in!

With such pretty views it definitely looks worth the exhaustion. Thanks for sharing your hike. ;)
