Sip ‘n’ See

November 24, 2010

In the South, there’s a tradition called the sip ‘n’ see.  It’s basically an open house baby shower that happens after the baby arrives.  Friends and family are invited to drop by and see the baby while sipping drinks…wine, in our case!  Who doesn’t like drinking wine and hanging out with an adorable baby at 4:00?

Right around 4:00, the guest of honor showed up, looking all fancy:

How cute is her bow?

My mom had cooked an array of lighter cocktail party fare:

Olive puffs:

…and pumpkin dip (recipe to follow!):

…and Autumn sugar cookies:

…and cranberry muffins:

It was a great sip ‘n’ see!  The ladies of the family were all in attendance:

And, like all great parties, the guest of honor was wearing nothing but her underwear by the end of the night:

Babies gone wild!

She got some quality aunt and uncle time in as well:

Off to prep for tomorrow’s big day!  Have a great Wednesday, everyone!

Looking forward to that dip recipe. Sounds like a great shower!

I’ve never heard of this Sip N See, but I officially love this idea for the following reasons:

    1) I hate baby showers. It feels like just an excuse to get presents and I don’t even get to see the baby.

    2) The mother can’t drink at a baby shower. In fact, I can’t recall a baby shower where booze was offered

    3) Baby showers before the baby is born are bad luck in some cultures. In a “counting your chickens before they hatch” way.

HOLD THE PHONE…what are olive puffs?!?! i want, i NEED!

      > > They were so easy! You thaw out frozen puff pastry and roll it out thin, > sprinkle it with a little bit of cayenne pepper and about a half a cup of > shredded cheddar cheese. Then, you cut it in half inch strips, put an olive > on the end, roll it up to cover the olive, and cut it with scissors or a > knife. Then, you just keep doing it until all of the puff pastry has been > used!

      Super easy and really tasty!

She is adorable!!! One of my friends wants to do a sip n see for me. I keep telling them they already did too much by hosting a baby shower for me even though it was my 2nd kid. All of those shower goodies look amazing.

A sip and see sounds fun! I feel redundant (seeing as I say this every time you post Sophie pics) but she is so beautiful! What a happy little baby. You look a lot like your mom!

WOW you, your mom and your sister look so much alike!
I am in love with the Sip ‘n’ See idea–I had never heard of it before and I think I’ll have to do something like that for my future baby (whenever that is) since family/friends are so far away.
Sooo looking forward to that pumpkin dip recipe!

Does Sophie’s dress come in adult sizes? If I were in charge of giving out a cutest baby ever award she would TOTALLY win

  19. November 25, 2010 12:52 am

ADORABLE!!! Love that bow!!!! Little baby and kids are soooo cute!! HUGS

  20. November 25, 2010 1:18 am

Sophie is absolutely adorable. You are one lucky auntie. I never knew my aunts and uncles when I was growing up, so I am sure that she will greatly appreciate having you in her life.
Also, did your mom decorate those cookies by herself?? If she did I am jealous, if not where did she get them??

Lindsay, this is Anna’s mom, and I must confess that I ordered the cookies and the cranberry muffins from a bakery here in Shreveport called Cheesecakes ‘n More. They bake wonderful things, and I decided they would do a much better job on those cookies than I ever could!

  22. November 25, 2010 3:01 am

she’s beautiful! and if she doesnt make your clock tick, nothing will :)

and the cookies…they are iced so perfectly…they are *almost* too perfect to eat :)

How fun!! Sip’nSee, I love it. I want to do that even though I don’t live in the south…is that allowed?! And sipping on wine is definitely the best thing to sip on, despite the time.

Your mom did a great job with the food. That pumpkin dip sounds great, and I love that she even displayed it in a pumpkin, awesome!

And your niece, well, she is one of the cutest little babies I have seen in my ENTIRE life. Oh my gosh. I want to hug and squeeze her and make her laugh.

    Have a happy Thanksgiving!

  25. November 25, 2010 11:45 pm

Awwwwwww, look how smiley she is! Absolutely adorable. Also, do you mind if I steal your mom for a bit? She bakes so many delicious looking things!
