All By Myself*
*sung a la Bridget Jones, of course!
Happy Friday, friends! This post will be quick because I’m deeply immersed in Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution. I’m really liking it so far…a more in depth discussion will follow!
Tonight, Ryan and I met our friend Steve for some Indian food at a new restaurant that just opened a few weeks ago. I’m psyched that we have an Indian restaurant in Altoona now—and it’s only five minutes from our house!
Of course, none of that matters if the food is no good…luckily, our food was great! The service left something to be desired, but that’s kind of par for the course in new restaurants, in my opinion.
We shared an order of vegetable samosas to start with:
…followed by aloo gobi (cauliflower and potatoes), paneer, and baigan bharta (eggplant). Plus lots of chewy naan. Yum!
After dinner, Steve and Ryan headed up to campus to view a student production of Macbeth. And me…I headed home.
I feel like such a bad English teacher, but I really just can’t get into Shakespeare’s plays. I like reading them, but seeing them performed…oy, not so much. So now I’m chilling at home with the dogs…alllllll by myselffffff:
Hope you’re having a great Friday—see you tomorrow!

Can’t wait to discuss food revolution with bloggers. If you’ve gotten to the chicken scene yet, don’t you feel great being veg?
Ugh– the whole SHOW kind of makes me feel great about being veg! At least I know that when I have kids, hopefully they’ll be able to identify what a tomato is!
I want to see that show. Are you watching it online? Is it on On Demand, do you know?
not sure about on demand, but it’s on hulu online!
I don’t blame you for passing on Shakespeare productions. This is coming from a former actor, too. While the man was certainly a remarkable poet and could weave incredible tapestries with the English language in his prose…I think his plays just regurgitate the same themes over and over again. Revenge, ill-fated love, politcs, revenge, etc…Plus, I think he was kind of misogynistic! But I’ll stop my ranting there…
So glad you have Indian food at your fingertips now! Samosas are easily one of my top five favorite appetizers on the planet.
I DVR’d the Food Revolution and I can’t wait to see it!!
I cannot get into Shakespeare.. written or performed. The only way I understood any Shakespeare was in High School when I had this awesome teacher that would read it to us and then interpret what it meant – It was like a whole new understanding!!!
I’ve never had Indian before but it sure looks good!! And I agree, new restaurants usually equals bad service BUT if the food is good, I can forgive.
Love ya!
I’m so mad that I missed Food Revolution! Oh well, thanks to the power of the internet I’m sure I’ll be able to find it!
Evan pointed out to me that it’s on Hulu!
Food Rev, missed it, totally. But i love jaime’s msg and am on board with all that jazz.
the Mint chocolate chip macaroon from last post? wtf??!! how did i miss those?!
The dvd review. I think all dvds are pretty lame, good to hear that one wasnt choppy. But not really a good workout. They are geared for the un-fit, I think.
anyway thx for your vote of confi on my bikini comp goals/dreams
xoxo
Yeah, the PR woman actually e-mailed me and thanked me for doing the review, and agreed that the DVD is very light. She says that most of their DVDs are marketed towards Wal Marts, and so they keep the fitness level very beginner.
The mint chocolate chip macaroons are from Emmy’s Organics, and they are awesome!!! Although probably not as good as yours
Oh how I love Bridget Jones
Though only the 1st move, the 2nd not so much….
I don’t blame you for hating Shakers, I can’t stand him!
I have Food Revolution recorded- can’t WAIT to watch it!!!
So glad the food was good. You’re right, doesn’t matter if there is an Indian restaurant if it stinks
That Bridget Jones scene is infamous, and so hilarious! I want to watch that movie now!! The Indian for dinner looks like the perfect Friday meal
I really can’t wait to see Food Revolution! I need to make sure I actually watch it when it’s on!
And as for Indian food.. we should go sometime! Altoona is FINALLY becoming cultured! I’ve waited 23 years for this!
I don’t know if I’d go so far as to say that it’s becoming cultured, haha
But it’s a good start! We should definitely go some time! I know you’ll be on auntie duty when you visit (trust me, I know how fun that is!!!), but let me know if you want to meet up
It seems like everyone watches Food Revolution. How different is it to his former shows?
Ah, you made me crave Indian food now!
I really love aloo gobi and paneer…those are two of my most favorite Indian dishes. So glad you have a good Indian restaurant near you. I am still in search of a decent one here in LA. Maybe I just have unreasonable standards?
Have a great Saturday!!
I missed Food Revolution!!! I’ll have to watch online!!
All of that Indian food looks so good!!! Mmmmm samosas!!!
I watched the preview of food revolution and then rewatched it last night!! (plus the new episode of course) Jamie is SOOOO amazing.
And I love the title. Although I prefer the “all by myself” scene during clueless in front of the fountain at her house! haha.
Ahhhh, yes, me too!! Love that scene…actually, love every scene from that movie
The food looks great! We have a new Indian place here with many vegan options that I’ve been meaning to try.
I just set my DVR to grab Food Revolution after reading to much about it, he was interesting on Oprah yesterday making a mother cry for feeding her kids mostly cheap processed foods like frozen pizzas.
that scene in bridget jones was terrific. in fact, every time that song is used in movies it’s pretty good (remember “to die for?”)
