Parfait = Perfect
Impressed with my French skills? I took French from kindergarten until my senior year of high school. Then, when I got to college, I randomly decided to take Italian! Um, yeah—BAD idea! The two languages are just close enough to be SUPER confusing—especially when you’re spending all of your “studying” time at the beach. I switched back over to French when I studied abroad there the next year.
Do you speak any languages other than English? I’d hardly say that I’m fluent in French, but I know enough to get by.
Anyway, I’ve retained some of my language skills…enough to know that parfait means perfect—and in the case of my lunch, that sounds just about right!
My yogurt parfait contained: 1 container of 2% fage, blueberries, strawberries, 1/2 a Nature’s Path rebound bar (I had the other half before our gym trip this morning), and WHEATBERRIES!!! I haven’t had wheatberries in forever, mainly because I’ve just been too lazy to cook them up, but I love them so!
Mmmm…they’re so chewy and good! I can’t wait to toss these in my oats and salads this week.
Here’s the bar:
I actually liked this bar a lot! It was sweet, but not overly so. Kind of like a chewy oatmeal cookie. Good work, Nature’s Path! I still think their cereal is the best though.
Our morning has been a good one! I wrote for about an hour and a half this morning, which is good because it’s the first time I’ve done some writing all week! I have a word count goal in mind for before we leave for Spring Break in two weeks, so I’ll have to kick it up a notch if I want to meet that goal.
We went to the gym, which we also haven’t done in a while. I’ve been mainly running on our treadmill at home and doing DVDs, simply because of the snow, but it felt great to go to the gym and do some “hardcore” lifting.
Ummm, yeah—there is nothing hardcore about my weight lifting skills! But, it always feels good to do some strength training after a cardio-heavy week.
As you can see from my lunch pics, the sun is actually shining bright today—I hope it melts some of this snow away!!! I think I’m going to take Ella on a long walk so that we can soak up some Vitamin D!
See you for dinner!

I speak southern. Does that count? And we LOVE wheatberries. I put them in vegetable soup in winter and do a salad in the summer. I’d like that salad now so I can dream of summer. Making a Whole Foods run Sunday and will fill a bag with winter wheatberries to make a summer salad.
I NEED to get my hands on some wheatberries! I’ve heard so much about them and it’s not a need…not a want
Okay, I exaggerate a bit, but I reeeeally want to try them! That parfait does look perfect!!
Have a great weekend, Anna!
Is it weird to say I can “speak” latin semi-fluently? I mean, considering myself compared to the general public, I kind of can. But if I ever had to follow a real Roman speaking, I’d be screwed
i’ve never tried wheatberries… i’m intrigued!! they look a lot like barley which i loooove.
have an awesome weekend!
Parfait looks great…..Funny about feeling hard core……..Glad the weather is looking nicer for you!
I’m not even positive about what wheatberries are, but they look delicious. ALMOST as good as potato salad in gumbo.
I minored in Italian in college but still can hardly speek it. I’m not good with languages I guess, haha.
The wheatberries look great! I’ve always wanted to try them.
Don’t know if you saw Alicia’s (Vegan Epicurean) post on my blog the other day about go-to meals. She says you can freeze wheat berries. I love them, but they take so long to cook. Now that I know they can be frozen, I can cook in large quantities and keep them frozen and on hand!
I speak English, German, Swiss-German, Japanese and French fluently and would mayyybe get by in Spain as well. Now.. That makes me sounds kind of badass.
I just love languages and since we have four (!) national languages they were thrown at us at a speedy rate.
Wheatberries.. mmm. still have to try (and find them first) them! Your parfait looks so good! I miss strawberries!
I took French all through school, and studied abroad in Paris my Junior year. I miss France!
Those wheatberries look so good in your breakfast! I love their chewy texture, too.
Hmmm, never tried wheatberries and think I need to get my hands on some for hubby.
I know what you mean. I took French for 4 years in high school. My senior year, I decided to take Spanish I in conjunction with French IV. In Spanish class, I’d talk and write in French all the time!
Wheatberries are SO good! I took French & Latin in high school, then traveled to countries that only spoke Spanish….I ended up speaking a horrible mix of Spanish and French (my brain only knew it wasn’t English, but had no idea besides that!)
I wish i spoke another language. I took Spanish in high school and retained just enough to figure out the easy Spanish words on the crosswords! haha!
That bar sounds great! I haven’t seen those around. I love Nature’s Path though!
I took Spanish in school, and can kind of get by, but I took an on-line French course before we went to France a few years ago, and that helped tremendously, especially with pronunciation. I love those on-line classes! Where do you find wheatberries? They look like barley, and I love the chewy texture of barley.
WOW those wheatberries look AMAZING!!!! ive never had those!
yay for sunlight! We’ve had a couple of wonderful days here in Chicago, too. Being outside yesterday totally improved my mood! Spring is almost here
I’ve never had wheatberries! I guess I’ll have to add it to my list of things to try
I LOVE wheatberries! Unfortunately I’ve never made them on my own :/ I’ve only ever had them from the Whole Foods salad bar…lame!! I love the idea of having them as a sweet breakfast. Yum!
I would never have thought you use wheat berries that way. Great idea!
I speak Italian, and French, as well as some Spanish and German. You are right Italian and French are a little too similar. I sometimes confuse the two when speaking. The Italians always understand though.
Alicia
Your parfait looks delicious! Wheatberries are really good but I just realized that I probably can’t eat them anymore since I can’t eat wheat. I’m assuming they are not gluten-free?
I speak a little Spanish and a little Hindi but neither very well. Story of my life!!
It’s so cool that you studied abroad! It seems like that is the best way to learn a foreign language- just immerse yourself in it! My one regret is not studying abroad in college. I was going to minor in Spanish but that changed down the road… I still have the basic understanding though. I’ve never tried wheatberries- they sound good though!
Estudio Espanol para seis anos pero no comprende bien.
That was probably not even correct. I was terrible at it!
I dropped French in college when it got time to take a literature class. Did you ever have the blonde bombshell teacher? I forget her name… she was French, with a degree from Harvard, and a hot husband andn adorable baby, and of course, a house on Sullivan’s. Oddly enough, I took a class with her that was all women.
Yay for Spring Break! I know ours is coming up and I can’t wait!
I never had her, but I know who you’re talking about. I had a SUPER old lady, and a young guy…now I can’t remember his name. He was supposed to come to Annot with us, but he ended up getting fired because he had been using the school’s money to fund his vacations!!
Are y’all doing anything fun for spring break?
