Sunshine and Clouds
Hey guys! I’m glad you liked my Mardi Gras Slaw! I’d definitely recommend bookmarking that one for the next time you need a quick, easy dinner or potluck contribution.
Today is Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent. I was raised Unitarian, but I also went to an Episcopalian school from kindergarten until high school, and growing up in Louisiana, I have a lot of Catholic friends, so I’d usually attempt to give something up along with my school friends…although I was the kid who gave up broccoli and homework! Clever, right?
What about you—are you giving something up for this season of Lent? I have a few friends who are giving up Facebook—brave souls!!! I’ve also seen more than a few people not giving something up, but rather adding something good into their life, and I like that idea a lot!
Speaking of adding good things into life, the lovely Michal over at Lil’ Earth Muffin (is there a cuter blog title?) gave me this Sunshine Blogger Award as a blogger who brings sunshine into her life! Thanks Michal!! You bring sunshine into my life too!

As part of the award, I’m supposed to nominate 12 other bloggers, but I hate choosing! And besides, you ALL bring me sunshine every day…even when it’s cloudy out, like today! So, if you read this blog, consider yourself nominated!
Despite the clouds, I took Ella out for a nice long walk this morning—2.5 miles. I think taking her on these walks isn’t just helping my mood—it’s helping her as well! I had Ella for two years before we got Baxter, so I think she enjoys being by herself with me—I bet it reminds her of her glory days, back when she was an only dog! My older sister makes references to “the good old days” before I came along—it must be an older sibling thing.
For lunch, I went the lazy (but good!) route:
Amy’s Vegetable and Tofu Pot Pie:
Mmmmmm…I LOVE Amy’s. How is it that everything they make is SO tasty? My only complaint about this meal is that it’s kind of small for 420 calories…but, it’s also more filling than it looks!
We’re going to hot yoga in State College tonight—I’m so excited! We haven’t been in forever because of my trip home, and then the bad weather! It’ll be nice to sweat for a while.
Not sure about dinner…I guess we’ll probably eat in State College. It might just be a Green Bowl night!
See you tonight!

My oldest kitty is the same way. She loves to spend time with just me since it was just her and I for so long. Now, there is a husband and two other kitties for her to compete with.
Amy’s food looks great but I still haven’t tried any of it for some weird reason.
I guess the calorie count is high because of the crust. It still looks worth it though!
I always got a glass bottle of Pepsi. When I was a kid, Pepsi was almost twice the size of Coca Cola and the same price. I’m going to look for Amy’s when I’m at Whole Foods next time. BTW, I am also a Unitarian!! Raised a Southern Baptist but switched about 25 years ago.
Did you ever attend the UU Church while you were in Charleston? Lovely! We really enjoyed our years there. Great old cemetery between the church and the education building. We used to have a “Mad Hatters” party each spring to clean it up wearing outlandish hats that both genders (it is UU) concocted.
I love that church!!! I think it is the prettiest church in all of Charleston. I went to a few services when I was at CofC, and I always really enjoyed them!
That pot pie looks crazy good! I love Amy’s products, but haven’t tried this one yet. Glad to hear it got a good review!
I haven’t had Amy’s products in ages. I can’t even recall the last time I had a pot pie. I LOVED those things as a child too!
Oh my gosh, me too– I used to hope that my parents would go out and leave me with a babysitter because I’d always get to have one for dinner!
mmmm comfort food at its finest! that looks GREAT!
I was raised Catholic, and even though I don’t practice it anymore, I still give up something for Lent. (I guess you can take the girl out of the church, but not the guilt out of the girl.) So I’m giving up ice cream, but I’m also going to try to give something, too.
(Oh, and Jon failed to mention on that comment he left insulting Ella’s virtue was that he was on his third glass of wine.)
Haha, Brandi (my pup) gets jealous whenever we pay attention to the CAT. I don’t even want to think about how she would act if we got another dog.
That Amy pot pie looks so good! I’ve only had 2 Amy’s products and they were both soups but I really liked them. Super tasty. My only complaint is that they seem to contain quite a bit of sodium.
oh that pot pie looks great!
I haven’t had the pot pie, but I really like Amy’s Shepherd’s Pie!
Have fun at hot yoga!
Ooh I’m going to the grocery store today! I’m going to look for those!
I love Amy’s meals! They are all so yummy!!!
Have fun tonight at Hot Yoga!
Shoot! I totally forgot it was Lent. I like the idea of adding something to your life rather than taking something out. I could NEVER give up facebook though I would if it meant giving up blogging.
I’m only 2 years older than my brother, but I always bring up my only child days…
hey! that looks awesome! Amy’s makes such great stuff. I havent tried this yet though. I hope you have an awesome time at yoga! take care!!
Ooh, I haven’t had pot pie in forever. I used to love it as a kid.
have fun in state college! such a great place, although it used to be my “rival” since i went to pit.. lol
amys rocks.. glad you liked your pot pie
I’ve never been to hot yoga! i am dying to try it though…
Amy’s products are the best!! I’ve been wanting to try that pot pie for a while.
The pot pie does look good, may need to invent a raw version
I’ve been wanting to try hot yoga, can’t wait to hear about it.
Hi Anna! I was thinking about giving something up for Lent, but I couldn’t think of anything that was worthy of giving up (i.e. separating me from God in a consistent way) so I’m just going to be super-diligent with my daily devotional time.
Where do you get the Green Bowl in State College, PA? I’m going to be there for a business trip in late March, and it looks delicious!!! I’d love to have a little help eating well while I’m away!
It’s right on the main drag, on Beaver Avenue (one street over from College Ave.)– it’s great if you need something healthy and fast!
Giving up FB is a great idea for many people. So many are hooked! I have to remember to look at it.
What I SHOULD give up is blogging and reading blogs. It would probably free a few hours a day!
You are so very welcome
I love amys products, especially her burritos.
