Popcorn for Dinner
Before Ryan and I started dating, I was guilty of having the following items for dinner (not all at once, obviously): ice cream, peanut butter on a spoon, goldfish crackers + ranch dressing, a DQ blizzard, chips and salsa, and POPCORN.
Now, I’m not saying this happened a lot. I’ve always been a relatively healthy eater, even in college and grad school. But the temptation to eat a random, not-so-healthy dinner was always greater when I was just eating with me, myself, and I.
Tonight felt kind of like a throwback to those days (don’t worry, Ryan. I’m not going to refer to them as “the good old days”…even if that’s what they were!).
Tonight, we went to a 7:15 showing of An Education, which was really, really good! It was pretty quiet and understated, but one of those movies that you keep thinking about even after it’s over. Also, it was serious without being depressing, and actually had a very uplifting ending. Great flick!
We’d decided to go out for a late dinner after the movie, but when we got to the theater, the popcorn was just to tempting! We all got popcorn, and then when the movie let out around 9, none of us was hungry for a “real” dinner. We debated going for pizza, but even that felt like too much. Finally, we just headed home, where I made a snack plate of sorts because even though I had probably taken in more than enough calories with the popcorn, I still felt “empty”—which is exactly why popcorn for dinner is a bad idea!
My second dinner was a nice little tasting plate:
Helloooooo, carbs!
Clockwise from the top, we have pink lady apple slices, millet bread with raw AB (love!), and whole wheat bread with parmesan cheese. Quite the tasty tasting plate…topped with a cowboy cookie! I also had some Kashi TLC crackers while waiting for my millet bread to toast up…funny how that happens, right?
Tomorrow, we have a busy day—the shower in the morning, plus a Mardi Gras parade tomorrow night! It should be a fun day! Not sure when I’ll be able to post pics, but it’ll happen eventually.
Enjoy your Saturday! Night, kids!

I am sooo guilty of popcorn for dinner! I’ve always said that was my “secret single behavior” a la sex and the city
Watching Oprah on DVR about diabetes. I’m scared now and this may have given me the inspiration to tag along with your Feb Challenge.
Ooh, I’ll have to watch that! Maybe it’ll scare me straight too– I haven’t exaclty been abstaining from the sugar this weekend
aww have fun at the parade! so fun!!
i <3 that snack plate!
Glad to hear that you liked An Education. I want to go and see it too!
. It’s probably a good thing though – keeps me away from buttery popcorn at the cinema most of the time.
For some reasons I can’t eat a huge amount of popcorn or else I get awful tummy aches
I’m not a huge fan of popcorn. It’s not really something I look forward to at the movies. Have fun at the parade!!
That sounds like my college years and I *still* crave popcorn every time I go to the movies. It’s the smell! Planning helps because I pack a snack for the movies and eat that instead.
I used to have cereal for dinner quite a bit back in the single days
I think we’re all guilty of the “snacking” dinner. It’s good every once in awhile! I always snack while I’m waiting for things to cook, too
I like to do little platters like that sometimes with fruit, cheese, maybe some hummus spread onto whole-wheat wraps. Just little nibbles.
I heart that cowboy cookie! Looks like choco-chips? Or raisins? Whatever – looks good! And, hey…don’t knock DQ Blizzards
Carob chips! And I *LOVE* me a blizzard, for realsies
I would eat one every day if I could do so without weighing 300 pounds!
I love dinner’s like that!
Looks like a good dinner to me! That popcorn smell at movie theaters is just evil, isn’t it? At good junk dinner to me is frozen banana soft serve or avocado chocolate mouse from the Vita-Mix.
That snack plate looks yummy. :3 Random things for dinner can be fun!
I’ve never heard of the movie And Education but I’m glad it was good.
Um yeah movie popcorn is irresistible…sometimes you just have to go for it
And that snack plate sounds incredible… I love carbs.
I definitely am guilty of having snacks for dinner at times. It happens when I let myself get too hungry.
Will you still be in LA for Mardi Gras? I went once; it was a blast.
I love random dinners
That dinner plate is my kinda meal! All kinds of good and tasty stuff
the AB on that plate just looks too yummy!
and popcorn for dinner? i used to drink my dinners. his name was kettle one or grey goose. Popcorn is far better than those
Oh I heard that movie was really good, I have it on my list of “must see movies”. Like you, I get tempted by the popcorn at the movie theater. Luckily (or not?) Nick doesn’t like it so I get it all to myself. We don’t go to the movies very often so I figure it’s not a big deal..everything in moderation, right?! Last time we went to a movie I was so full and had about 1 cup left at the bottom of the bag. I was so annoyed with the fact that I kept eating it, despite being super full, that I dumped water in it. Problem solved. If I had not done that I would have been super uncomfortable for the rest of the 2.5 hour movie, yuck.
Have a great time at the shower tomorrow!
I love random dinners! And a HUGE thumbs up to cereal for supper! Haha! Hope your weekend is going well : )
Ack, that’s funny…I used to have popcorn for dinner when I was rather eating disordered…that was my “safe” food! Funny how it constitutes different thoughts on different people.
Love that you hug your carbs!
