Soup and a (Subway) Sandwich
Hey y’all! Sorry for the lack of posting all day—it’s been a lonnnng day. day!
This morning, I did a quick treadmill workout, alternating 10 minutes of running with 10 minutes of my “10 Minute Solutions” abs dvd—I did the pilates section and the 6-pack abs section, and they were pretty intense! A good workout for sure. It ended up being a good 50 minute workout!
At noon, I ate a quick lunch:
Doesn’t this pic look like a monster face? Hee hee.
After I ate my lunch, I headed upstairs to blog and discovered, lo and behold, my wireless wasn’t working! Lovely! I needed to get to school, so I didn’t have time to play around and try to figure out what was wrong, so I just turned it off (which is basically the only thing I know how to do when I encounter any sort of technological problem).
My classes went well today—for their first paper, my students create a mixed cd for a specific audience and write a paper explaining their song choices (as an exercise in audience, purpose, text analysis, etc.). I always like getting these papers—some of them are pretty funny! Plus, I get a bunch of free music, haha!
Ryan and I met back up when we were done teaching and headed home for dinner…with a stop along the way for some help, that is! We stopped into Subway to pick up some sandwiches to go along with our leftover vegetable soup.
Mmmmm…I LOVE me some Subway. When I used to work as a nanny, Ryan would bring me a sandwich from either Pita Pit or Subway every Wednesday. Good times.
Dinner was delicious!

Sugar Challenge Update
On the sugar challenge today, I got a little confused over something, and I’m hoping that one of y’all might be able to help me figure this out! For a snack today, I was looking through my bars again, and I noticed that one of my Balance bars listed 15 grams of sugar alcohol, but just 1 gram of sugar. Should I count this as 15 grams towards my overall added sugars, or no? Thoughts? I’m going to count it until I hear otherwise.
Total Sugar Intake:
- millet bread: 3 grams
- almond butter: 1 gram
- veggie burger: 1 gram (I think just from the natural veggies, but I’m still counting it)
- cashew crunch: 3 grams
- Subway bread: 3 grams (I got regular wheat—the honey oat has 8 grams!)
- 1 tablespoon dark chocolate chips (umm…oops?): 4 grams
- balance bar: 15 grams
Total = 30 grams
Pretty high still. Nobody said it’d be easy, right?
I worked my tail off all day and got all of my online class grading done, but that BIG pile of papers is definitely coming along with me down South! My flight leaves tomorrow at noon, so I don’t know when I’ll be posting all day. But, if everything goes as planned, I’ll be in Shreveport by 7:00, so I’ll definitely post a recap at some point tomorrow night! I’ll be tracking my sugar all day, so wish me luck—something tells me the airport might be a sugar trap!
I need to get moving—I haven’t packed yet at all! I’d like to get to bed early…last night, I woke up at 4 am, convinced that I was hearing someone walking around in our house. Our house is really old, so it creaks and moans a lot, but for some reason, last night (this morning?!?), it really got to me. It took me about an hour to get back to sleep!
OH! And if you’re wondering—my magic trick of shutting my computer down worked! When I turned it back on tonight, everything was up and running, just like normal! Go figure.
Hope Tuesday was a good one for you! See you tomorrow, kiddos!

Hey lady, glad you liked my phrase “ripping ass”. I got a good chuckle out of it. I LOVE subway to the depths of my soul and I too order it with extra pickles. Sometimes I find a Subway that carries sweet peppers… that is pretty special. About the sugar alcohols… I feel like they shouldn’t count!
Oh I love Subway!!! Something about it..
I’m not too sure about the sugar but i’d go with the 1 g I think.
Have a safe, fun trip!!!
Haha I love Subway too! My friend and I were walking down the street yesterday and smelled this AMAZING bread… it was Subway.
i just found a jar of pickles in the back of my fridge. yay!!!
Extra pickles is the ONLY way to go!
Sounds like an interesting assignment!
I probably wouldn’t do so hot on an added-sugar assesment, lol. Good for you for tracking it!
Subway veggie patty is the best! I love your idea about giving students a cd assignment. Fun for them and new music for you!
I’ve always wanted to do a sugar challenge! But that being said, it would definitely be a CHALLENGE.
Have you seen the movie Paranormal Activity? If not, then I would recommend NOT watching it with a creaky old house. xD You’re random 4am paranoia spells will become increasingly worse.
Lol.. 30g of sugar.. I’ve been hitting 60g! I’ll be working hard to get that lowered..
Mmmm, have not had Subway in ages. Not sure on sugar alcohol, but sounds like something likely processed, I’d avoid it :-\
Have a safe trip tomorrow! Im jealous, I love LA (and im one of the few people who DEF means louisiana and not los angeles <— ewwww, haha)
I know right! Crazy therapist–obviously I’d eat that cream up in no time. have a great trip!!
I ate a Kashi bar yesterday that had 35g alone! Yikes!
My wireless has been acting up recently too, so I’m using the Ethernet till I have some time to get it fixed
Last year I ate Subway probably 2-3 times a week! There was a store really close to my old campus and it definitely beat dining hall food. I love that you get extra pickles…so yummy!
Great idea for the papers, by the way! Wish I’d had one like that!
Love your monster face! I wish I had cool classes like these when I was a kid..
I haven’t been to Subway in ages! Well probably because we only have one Subway in Zurich (!?). Sigh.
No, I wouldn’t count the sugar alcohols as sugar because they don’t acuse the same health problems when consumed in excess. However, sugar alcohols can cause GI upset when consumed too often. For me, even that 15 grams may cause stomach upset. It’s the same stuff they add to “Sugar free gum”. Just be careful and don’t consume more than probably about 15 grams per day.
I would LOVE to hear the mixes that your students created! I think children are so creative.
Have a nice day
Thanks for the explanation, Gina!
cannot believe u are a teacher…so neat…
soup and veggie sandwich…great.
Girl, 15g of added sugar in a day is amazing – I mean, I feel like we all need at least a little added sugar in our lives
Sugar alcohols don’t count, although they upset my stomach too (sugar-free gum and I don’t get along).
I love the paper idea… and the free music you get even more. For a paper in an American Lit class I took in college I turned in a CD along with a paper with songs that I connected with Robert Frost poems – the prof loved it, and I think it was because he was sick of lonnnnnng papers
I used to be a huge Subway fan but since becoming veg, it’s not as exciting. Maybe if they offered hummus or another protein but just having the vegetables isn’t as much fun…
I agree!! I’m actually surprised they don’t offer hummus. Maybe some day…
Ah, soup! We had soup again last night in the form of a noodle bowl. Tonight I promise myself to make something other than soup!
I’m not too sure about the sugar alcohols but y suggestion is to avoid the balance bars and any other type of bar because those pack a ton of sugar! I definitely tried to avoid them during my sugar detox and I never went back because they are now too sweet for me!
Great job on your progress. I love Subway!!
I’ve never been to Pita Pit. I’m always jealous when I see bloggers with their sandwiches. Subway is good, but they don’t have hummus. Hey, that’s actually a pretty good idea if anyone from Subway corporate is reading this!
I don’t even know what sugar alcohol is!
It’s crazy that so many things have sugar in them that you would think wouldn’t!
