The Return of the Prodigal Ezekial Wrap

January 16, 2010

Afternoon, all!

Hope your Saturday has been a fun one so far.

I started off this morning with a little blog housekeeping.  You’ll notice that my URL is now newlywednewlyveg.com—that’s right, folks!  I bought my own domain!  Woo hoo!  I’m SO glad I got rid of that pesky “wordpress”—it was totally dragging me down.   ;-)

Everything should be the same, and even if you go to the old URL it should just direct you to the new one sans ‘wordpress,’ but be sure to let me know if you have problems!

I also categorized and alphabetized the recipes in the “Recipes” section at the top of the tool bar, so those are much more easily accessible now.

Finally, I added a nice little picture of myself to the sidebar…just so you know I’m always watching you.  :-)

Ideally, some day I’d like to move to a wordpress.org format, so that I can design (or work with someone to design) my own unique blog, but I think I’ll wait until the numbers have grown a bit to take on that task.

After the blog revamp, Ryan and I got down and dirty with a new yoga DVD.  Have you ever tried the DVDs from YogaWorks?

We did this one:

Holy yoga workout, Batman!  It was a good one!

It started off with a set of abs moves that conveniently became “yoga” by the instructor literally adding the word “yoga” to the exercise.  So, we did crunches but she called them “yoga crunches,” we did bicycles but she called them “yoga bicycles,” etc.   It was actually a little annoying, but that part only lasted about 5 minutes.  After the abs were over, we alternated between “cardio yoga,” (really fast sun salutations, chair poses, and downward dogs) and “slow burn” yoga (lots of warrior poses, triangle poses, and twists).  My one complaint about “cardio yoga” is that it moves so fast that oftentimes I end up feeling flustered and compromising my form just to keep up.  I’d much rather take my time, sink deep into the pose, and not feel rushed.

Overall though, it was a good workout, and a good way to throw a little variety into the mix.

Then, it was time for lunch!

I spy, with my little eye…a new product from Mary’s Gone Crackers!

I spotted these babies, looking lonely and sad at our natural health food store yesterday…how could I not take them home with me?

Guess it’s true what they say about vegetarians only eating sticks and twigs.  :-)

I really liked these—they’re SUPER crunchy, and just like with the regular crackers, there are whole seeds throughout.  The curry flavor was very pronounced, so if you’re not crazy about curry, I’d stay away from these (there were also plain ones).  If, however, you secretly think that eating curry by the spoonful from the spice jar sounds like fun, you’ll like these!  I know I did!

Stick (twig?):

I crunched on a few of these as I made my lunch:

Ezekial wrap with tempeh, spinach, FYH Vegan Monterrey Jack, and avocado.

Oh, Ezekial wraps…how I love thee.  I picked these up at the store yesterday too…these are the smaller kind, which I actually like better.  Normally when it comes to wraps, I say the bigger the better (that tends to be my motto with a lot of food, actually), but these Ezekial wraps are so dense, I’m perfectly satisfied with the smaller ones.

Along with the wrap, I had a big, juicy orange:

And a small bowl (maybe 1/3 a cup?) of granola to tide me over (unpictured).

Ryan is about to head out to go birthday shopping for yours truly.  I’ve given him a few ideas (some of which he quickly tossed out…whaddya mean, we don’t need another dog?!? ).  The first year we were dating, he gave me a homemade cat scratching post for my birthday, so he’s really had nowhere to go but up in the subsequent birthdays I’ve celebrated.  Way to set the standards low, big guy.

And no, my cat never used it. In fact, she scorned the post, acting as if the very sight of it was an insult to her integrity.

Gotta love homemade gifts.

Oh! Many of you asked how I liked the movie last night…I liked it! I’m a big fan of the original documentary (and if you haven’t seen that, go rent it right now!), so I was a little wary of the remake, but it exceeded my expectations!  I thought that it was just going to be basically a remake of the documentary (which was why I was worried), but it ended up really focusing on the history and back story of the two women, which is something that is always alluded to in the original, but not fully discussed.  I also thought that Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore both did a phenomenal job in their roles…you could definitely sense that they’d had to *become* these women in order to fully take on the film.

Later, chickas!  Happy Saturday!

How did you get your pic on the side bar!? I have been trying to figure that out!

    • January 16, 2010 10:25 pm

Hey! It took me (and my husband) like an HOUR to figure it out…user-friendly, my butt! :-)

But, it actually is quite simple. Just drag the “image” widget to your sidebar where you want it to appear, and download the url for the pic that you want (from your media library).

      This helped us A LOT:

      Good luck!

Yay for no wordpress. I’ve been trying to buy my domain but someone had it already and it’s expired and in the process of being renewed or deleted. I hope it gets deleted and I can scoop it up.

Congrats on the domain and that looks like an intense yoga DVD! Think I need to get up a few levels on Wii yoga before I try that one :-P The wrap looks fabulous!

Congrats on the new domain! I need to do that one of these days since my blog name is so long!

I love the picture of you on the side- I don’t think I ever knew what you looked like!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and thank you so much for commenting! I truly appreciate it!

Congrats on losing the wordpress! I love the new features too. Hmm, a scratching post for your birthday? lol, men… it’s the thought, right?!

  13. January 17, 2010 6:45 am

“Guess it’s true what they say about vegetarians only eating sticks and twigs. “–LOL and yes, those curry ones are STRONG. I dont like curry that much and give them to my 2 yr old (who’s turning 3 in 2 weeks!) & hubs and they reek of curry for a day or two :)

The Yoga. God. As a yoga teacher, it’s my pet peeve when other teachers 1. move so fast thru transitions that they lose people and people cant keep up 2. are doing regular “gym” or exercise moves and tacking on the word yoga, as if that makes it “better”. It’s just crunch or just a bicycle would be much preferred rather than bandwagon jumping, i totally agree. Thanks for the review. People always ask me about recommendations…i never know what to say b/c i dont use/need dvd’s! YogaWorks BTW has the reputation as being a gym/fitness mass-produced yoga-teacher vibe. Sad but true, that’s their rep. Of course, there are exceptions to every reputation :)

  14. January 17, 2010 2:28 pm

Oh my! Mary’s Cracker’s Stick and Twigs in curry flavor? I have got to try those! I love everything curry!

Way to leave .wordpress in the dust!

  15. January 17, 2010 2:47 pm

I have that yoga DVD to try too. I tried the YogaWorks Beginners one this week. Ugh, sounds like I kind of won’t like that one!

    • January 17, 2010 2:52 pm

No, I really did like it overall! You should give it a try…the cardio sections were just *a bit* too fast for me. Next time, I might just do the pose sequence, but at my own pace.

If you try it, let me know how it goes!
