Heat…Eat…It’s a Repeat!

January 4, 2010

Hey y’all! Lunch today is kind of boring—leftovers!  Boring, but delicious!  The meatlentil loaf from last night definitely benefitted from a little time in the fridge.  My piece today was definitely more “loaf-like.”  Plus, the flavors had time to meld…like so many things, I’d say this is definitely a meal that is even better the next day!

My piece, plus an extra squiggle of ketchup (my favorite condiment, if you were wondering.  I’m sure you were.):

That’s what I call a loaf!

It’s freezing here in Louisiana right now!  I expect warmer weather when I come down South!!! Grrrrr…

Some of us are colder than others, and must resort to sitting on our sibling as a means of warming our back paws:

What a goofball.  I also love Ella’s expression in this photo.  So happy to be a living dog couch.

Ryan and I hit the Y this morning because there was no way I was dragging my anti-cold weather butt outside for a run.  I know this is completely contradictive to logical sense, but I find it SO much harder to run on a treadmill, as opposed to an outdoor run.  I always feel like I’m going so much faster, and working really hard, when I’m only running 6 mph, which is much slower than my outdoor running pace.  On my regular outdoor runs, I can pretty easily keep a steady 8:45 to 9:00 pace, but if I try that on a treadmill, I feel like I’m SPRINTING.  Gah.  Just another reason to keep the workouts outdoors as much as possible.

Does anyone else have trouble with treadmill runs?  I can’t figure out why they give me so much grief.

Anyway, I did a 4 mile run and then hit up the weights for about 15 minutes.  Headed home, showered, ate my loaf (plus an unpictured Luna pb cookie), and now I’m waiting for my sis to come over so that we can go get mani/pedis.

Long live academia and the month-long Christmas break!  Hope that your Monday is going well if you’re back at work/school/regular life now that the holidays are over.

Ciao, bella!

I’ve never had “meat”/lentil loaf before! Sounds delicious :)

I really like running on the treadmill although recently I’ve gone running outside here with my sister and it’s a lot of fun!
I’m jealous of your mani/pedi! Enjoy!

Right there with you on the dreadmill! Sadly, I didn’t discover outdoor running until this past spring. Now the thought of the treadmill just about kills me. I’ve hardly logged any miles since the weather turned cold (and it’s super cold here in AR today too, even had snow). I do find that doing HIIT drills does help. For me it’s more about the boring factor and I start watching the time (seconds).

Ketchup is my all-time favorite condiment, too… my mom used to tell me that I should buy stock in it!

    Have fun getting your mani/pedis!

I was soooo behind on blog reading, and just went through your lastest FOURTEEN posts. I feel like we live the same life, but yours might just be about 50 times healthier. Glad to see you’re having a good time in LA.

And I hate the treadmill too. I feel like I’m sprinting and it makes my calves hurt.

I totally agree about being a worse runner on the treadmill. I can run much faster outside. The one caveat to this is when I’m sprinting. Intervals seem much much easier to me on the treadmill. Not sure I could run at 10.0 outside for any real length of time. I don’t even want to try!

Okay…yes what is the deal with this COLD weather. I am Texas and I am freezing my booty off! It was 28 this morning when I woke up!

But I am a treadmill LOVER! The longest I have ever run on a treadmill was 14 miles…I watched a movie and got a little carried away! haha! :)

I definitely have those problems on the treadmill! I trained for a race on a treadmill when I was studying in Buenos Aires (no way was I going to be able to run outdoors with the barrio I was in) and it was SO HARD. I had to start running at 5.5mph (although it was in kilometers there, but I’ve already forgotten the speed I had it set at) and even with a TV to watch, each mile dragged on. Forever. The good news is by the time I left (5 months later) I could handle 6-6.2mph on the treadmill and when race time came (outdoors! hallelujah!) I rocked 9 minute miles easily :) I find some treadmills harder than others, though. The ones at my current gym don’t seem as difficult as other ones that I have run on – like this past weekend I ran on a hotel gym’s treadmill and it felt just as hard as it used to feel.

Anyway, lots of blah to say I totally know what you mean :) That’s why I’ll stick to outdoor running as much as possible even in freezing WI!

I am the exact same way with the treadmill (seems others are as well!). It surprises me, because so many people think running outside is HARDER. I sure don’t. I’ve found out that I prefer the office treadmill over my one at home. How awful is that? Oops!

  10. January 5, 2010 12:22 am

I totally feel the same way about the speed on the treadmill. I feel like I push myself SO much more outside. Plus it’s fun to feel like a bad ass when you’re running outside and no one else is :)

I saved your lentil loaf recipe, it looks so good!!

  11. January 5, 2010 12:34 am

Ok, I’m definitely making that tomorrow for dinner. I looked at the original recipe, and wondered what changes you made. I saw walnuts in yours, which I liked. Any other changes? I’m so excited for this :-)

i do love a loaf – and your ketchup squiggle is gorgeous.

I HATE the treadmill and 6 mph seems like an olympic sprint… sad part is I run at that pace outside. You are one fast biotch!! I would freak if I could move at an 8:45 pace. Amazing.
Ketchup is my ultimate favorite condy too.

  14. January 5, 2010 1:24 am

Your pups are darling! I am such a softie for dogs : )

I wish 6 mph was a slow pace for me. I do agree with you, though…running outside does seem to increase my speed and the ease at which I run. But, I’m a treadmill lover. I love knowing how fast I’m going. Though, with my new Garmin Forerunner, I guess I don’t have an excuse…other than is FREEZING and ICY here!!!

I personally detest the treadmill…I feel like time goes so much slower. And it’s boring to run in place all the time, and I definitely feel like it’s more enervating to run on the treadmill!

  16. January 5, 2010 2:07 am

ahh i hate the treadmill too! i always watch the clock..boo
girl id heat that up for leftovers too if i were you!

  17. January 5, 2010 2:11 am

Your dogs are adorable! I hate the treadmill. I run slower on it and hate every min on there. I cannot do more than an hour and usually only manage 45 mins.

My leg is falling asleep just looking at Ella.

Such a cute pup picture! I HATE the treadmill. I have been running on the track at my gym, which I hate as well- it’s the lesser of two evils. There is nothing like running outside!

Your loaf looks awesome by the way!
