Dinner for Six, Indian Style
Evening, blog friends!
Tonight, a good time was had by all! My recap will be quick, because I am one tired teddy bear.
The table ended up looking very nice. Our dining room table and matching banquet were passed down to us from my parents when we moved up here to PA…they were originally my great-grandmother’s! The table normally seats 12, but we shortened the leaves to seat six.
For a centerpiece, I filled blue mason jars (which I used to collect a few years back, but have slacked off on) with poinsetttia blossoms and votive candles, and placed all of them on a beaded red table runner that I found at Kohl’s today for half-off!
The final effect was very pretty and simple:
I also found these cream-colored beaded placemats for half-off at Kohl’s. Naturally, I had to buy them too!
On the buffet, I placed a large glass hurricane vase with layers of green lentils, rice, and a few cranberries. I then filled the vase with sticks from our backyard, and topped the sticks with small gold ornaments. Random, but pretty cute, if I do say so myself! My bird votive holders went along with it quite nicely. I think they were happy to be part of the party:
Buffet empty…
…and filled with food!
That would be (from right to left): basmati rice, Indian chicken, curried chickpeas, and na’an.
I’ll post recipes tomorrow, but for tonight, I’ll just say– I think they were a success!
My plate:
That would be chickpeas, rice, na’an, mango chutney, and homemade raita.
Much wine was also enjoyed over the course of the evening
We ended the night on a sweet note with these chocolate white chocolate chip cookies that were the size of my head (or hand)…I’ll post the recipe for these tomorrow as well:
All in all, it was a great night! I promise I’ll write more tomorrow, but right now, bed is CALLING!!!
Hope your weekend is off to a great start!

How fun!! The vase filled with lentils is my favorite … love it!
I love the hurricane vase with sticks in it! It looks great! who knew it was homemade!
Dinner also looks great! Hope you had fun!
Everything looks great. The decor, the food… yum… definitely post those recipes
Thanks, y’all!
Anna,
Looks like you outdid yourself! The holiday themed table is so pretty. It is our first time to see your table from your grandparents. The food looks delicious and you continually inspire us with recipe ideas. I bought the ingredients for the barley casserole – it is similar to one I made a long time ago and Lynn liked it so much, he called me the barley queen but the recipe slipped away from my menu. We made the brussels spouts recently and really enjoyed them too. I tried to buy the spaghetti squash yesterday but the store where I shopped didn’t have it. I will have to try Central Market. We have been finishing decorations today and will have our cookie making party with Lynette, Don and her friend (Kelly) tomorrow to make gingerbread boys and cut out sugar cookoies. It is fun to wake up to snow and not be expecting it – it looks very Christmassy and if the first time for us to see your neighborhood setting. Hope you relax today – only 1 more week of school.
Thanks, Patti! We had a good time.
That’s funny about Lynn calling you the barley queen! What a kidder
We’re excited to cook with y’all when we come out to Seattle!
